MPA’s Continuing Education Program
A number of continuing education programs are developed by the Minnesota Psychological (MPA) Education and Training Committee, and all continuing education events sponsored by MPA are reviewed by that committee or a representative of the committee.
While psychologists are the primary audience for MPA’s continuing education programs, other mental health professionals and students are welcome as attendees.
Continuing Education Approval
The Minnesota Psychological Association is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Minnesota Psychological Association maintains responsibility for the program and its content.
The MPA Office maintains attendance records of all continuing education event attendees for a period of at least three years. Attendance for the entire duration of the event is required to receive continuing education credit.
Continuing Education Events
MPA sponsors a range of continuing education programs on a variety of topics of interest to psychologists. These programs include:
First Friday Forums
These three-hour programs are held mornings of the first Friday of the month at Metropolitan State University St. Paul Campus. They are co-sponsored by the Metropolitan State University Psychology Department.
Friday Forum Encores
These three-hour Friday morning programs are held three or four times a year at the Metropolitan State University Midway Center and are co-sponsored by the Metropolitan State University Psychology Department. The Encore programs have been held previously as a Friday Forum or other MPA continuing education event and have received high ratings by program attendees.
Distinguished Scholar Lectures
The Distinguished Lectures are offered twice a year at Macalester College and are co-sponsored by the Macalester College Psychology Department. The one and a half hour lectures are by nationally known scholars who present their research on topics of interest to psychologists and students.
MPA sponsors periodic one or two-day conferences. Major conferences at the present time include:
The MPA Annual Convention is a two-day spring conference with a variety of concurrent sessions, poster sessions, and keynote addresses. The official MPA Annual Business meeting is also a part of the conference.
