About NAMI
Walks
This will be the 12
th NAMIWalk in Minnesota! We invite you to take part in one of th
e largest NAMIWalks in the country and the largest mental health awareness
event in the state. It is an incredibly inspiring event to see so many peop
le come out to raise awareness about mental illnesses. Most of the mental h
ealth and health care organizations participate in the walk demonstrating t
heir support for this issue and for NAMI Minnesota.
The walk is about
recovery, resiliency and hope. It is about enjoying a beautiful fall day
with family, friends and co-workers. It’s about changing the way our
community views mental illness. It’s about creating a movement.
NAMIWalks supports many of the programs provided by NAMI Minnesota including the helpline, public policy advocacy, education progra ms for parents of children and adults, peer led support groups, grassroots organizing and much more. Last year NAMI Minnesota reached over 28, 000 people through our education classes and presentations, including over 6,300 through suicide prevention classes and over 9,600 teens through our E nding the Silence program. In all, over 180,000 people were served through all of our programs. The need for NAMI’s programs are great – and the walk makes these programs possible.
