This lect ure will be organized around the different classes of psychiatric medicatio ns (antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, anxiolytics, etc.). We will review evidence based indications for these medicines and common si de effects. We will also discuss mechanisms of action, newer classes of med ications (for addiction, dementia), and special considerations (pregnancy a nd pharmacogenomic testing). Questions are encouraged to foster an open dis cussion about how psychiatrists and psychologists can collaborate with one another towards optimal recovery for their patients.
This session is at the introductory level and is designed for psychologists and other menta l health professionals.
This session qualif ies for 3.0 continuing education credits. You must attend the full 3-hour p rogram to get continuing education credit for the event.
Nick Allen, M.D., attended the University of Kansas, where he earned his chem ical engineering degree and doctorate of medicine. He completed his psychia try residency and consultation-liaison fellowship at Mayo Clinic, where he now works as a hospitalist on medical-psychiatry services. He is passionate about learning and teaching in interdisciplinary settings.
