About the Program

This presentation is designed to advance diagnostic training for clinicians related to the comorbidity presentation of ASD, ADHD, SPD and other diagnoses. The diagnostic presentation and challenges posed by ASD and ADHD change significantly across the lifespan, particularly with regard to higher-level social, organizational, and other executive functioning demands associated with advancing age.

For instance, a preschooler will present differently than an adolescent dealing with sexual identity, or a freshman going off to college, or an adult with relationship issues. Each developmental stage requires sophisticated diagnostic skills and specific knowledge of the discriminatory use of interventions. Although the understanding of each separate disorder is helpful, the comorbid disorder presents a unique set of challenges and pitfalls. The diagnosis of both ADHD and ASD is based on behavioral symptoms. Both conditions frequently encompass deficiencies in communication and social interactions with peers, attention, and higher-order executive functions. In addition, clinicians will identify evidence-based practices appropriate for comorbid ADHD and ASD.

This session qualifies for 3.0 continuing education credits. You must attend the full 3-hour program to get continuing education credit for the event.

Invitation to Psychology Poster Session: All Friday Forum attendees are invited to stop by the Metro State Psychology Department Student Poster Session held at noon on August 3 in the Founders Hall Reception Area right behind the Friday Forum registration table. Everyone is welcome!
