This program will be held virtually via Zoom because of safety concerns due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At this time the program is only available to attend live.

More details with instruction on how to view the webinar will be sent to all registrants on 9/3.

Program: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Friday Forums are cosponsored with the Metropolitan State University Psychology Department.

About the Program

This lecture will be organized around the different classes of psychiatric medications (antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, anxiolytics, etc.). We will review evidence based indications for these medicines and common side effects. We will also discuss mechanisms of action, newer classes of medications (for addiction, dementia), and special considerations (pregnancy and pharmacogenomic testing). Questions are encouraged to foster an open discussion about how psychiatrists and psychologists can collaborate with one another towards optimal recovery for their patients.

This session is at the introductory level and is designed for psychologists and other mental health professionals.

This session qualifies for 3.0 continuing education credits. You must attend the full 3-hour program to get continuing education credit for the event.

Participants will be able to:

  1. Define pharmacologic classes of medications.
  2. List evidence based indications for each class of medications.
  3. Recognize side effects for each class of medications.
