Position summary: Premier Sport Psychology is pleased to offer a full-time, Sport Psychologist position. The position is designed for an individual who is interested in working as a member of a fast-paced, innovative, and rapidly growing sport psychology team. This position is responsible for providing both mental health and mental performance services to athletes. The position is expected to include clinical rotations on-site in the athletic departments of local DI-DIII universities (contracts depending), with the remainder of the time being spent in our private practice working with athletes from the youth to professional levels. There are additional opportunities to assist in providing services to other high school, collegiate, or professional organizations as well, contracts depending.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide individual, short- and long-term, multiculturally-competent mental health counseling for athletes with diverse presenting concerns in athletic department and private practice settings.
  • Engage in identification of, treatment planning for and referral of athletes who require a higher level of or specialized mental health care.
  • Function as an integral member of a multidisciplinary sports medicine team including athletic trainers, team physicians, psychiatrists, and sport dietitians.
  • Provide education and outreach to athletes, coaches, and other athletics staff on mental health and well-being.
  • Provide consultation to athletic department staff, including coaches, administrators, academic counselors, and  health and performance unit members.
  • Develop and support various initiatives to promote overall athlete health, resilience, and wellness in collaboration with various campus groups.
  • Manage sensitive and confidential information related to athletes, coaches, and staff utilizing discretion and in accordance with procedures, laws, and ethical codes.
  • Provide sport psychology team sessions, presentations, outreach, and workshops to athletic teams in the community, athletic department sports teams, and student-athlete leadership groups.
  • Participate in case management, peer consultation, business meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Maintain excellent record-keeping and exhibit strong communication skills.
  • Comply with all applicable National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulations in the performance of job duties.
  • Maintain a team-oriented and growth mindset and a willingness to support the team in times of need.
  • Other duties as assigned (e.g., assist with administrative activities, etc.). Some unconventional hours may be required.

Required qualifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Current Minnesota license (LP) or ability to obtain MN license within 6 months of employment.
  • At least 1-3 years of post-graduate experience providing mental health services.
  • Strong generalist with knowledge and experience in providing mental health counseling to athletes.
  • Ability to adapt to complex situations and work independently.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills required to initiate and foster relationships with athletes, coaches, staff, other clinicians, and various stakeholders.
  • Knowledge, skills, and expertise required to provide multiculturally-competent clinical services.
  • Knowledge, skills, and expertise required to proficiently conduct, document, and evaluate individual, crisis intervention, and consultation/outreach.
  • Ability to utilize an electronic health record system.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and build strong relationships internally and with clients.

Preferred experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Three years of experience post-graduate providing mental health services to athletes or serving as the primary mental health provider/consultant to a collegiate athletics department.
  • Experience working in a university counseling center and/or working as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Eligible to be a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).
  • Ability to present to groups of all ages and backgrounds, and strong public speaking skills.
  • Crisis intervention experience.
  • Completion of APA-accredited internship.
  • Knowledge and experience in providing performance-enhancement services to athletic teams.
  • Knowledge and experience in consulting with athletics department staff, including coaches, administration, academics, sports medicine, and sports nutrition.
  • Knowledge, training, and experience in working with athletes with eating and/or substance use concerns, injuries, and performance-related issues.
  • Knowledge, skills, and expertise required to proficiently conduct and evaluate supervision and training.

Compensation/Benefits: Compensation is competitive, based on education and experience. Depending on performance and workload, bonus opportunities are available.
