Mind-Body Medicine: Self-Care as the Heart of Health CareFriday, March 4, 2016 About the ProgramMind-body medicine (MBM) is both a philosophical orientation of integrative behavioral medicine and a set of techniques that asserts that "self-care is the heart of health care." Grounded in psychobiology, MBM empowers us to harness our own innate capacities for healing through understanding autonomic nervous system responses to stress and trauma. Mind-body skills such as meditation, imagery, autogenics, biofeedback, movement, and mindful eating offer tools for self-regulation, resilience, and preventative care. MBM aims to heal mind, body, and spirit. This program will introduce participants to the philosophy, practice, and scientific basis of mind-body medicine model, including how it benefits both clients and practitioners alike. The research on the efficacy of mind-body skills will be reviewed, including clinical case examples from the presenters’ work at North Memorial Health Care's Psychiatric Partial Hospitalization Program and Intensive Outpatient Program. In this session, participants will also engage in experiential learning through the practice of select mind-body skills. This presentation is at the introductory to intermediate level and is designed for psychologists and other mental health providers. This session qualifies for 3.0 continuing education credits. You must attend the full 3-hour program to get continuing education credit for the event. Participants will be able to:
