Executive Director

The Hamm Memorial Psychiatric Clinic is currently seeking applicants for the position of Executive Director. Located in St. Paul, Minnesota, the Clinic’s mission is to provide quality and culturally competent mental health assessment and treatment for adults in its community, particularly the underserved and those who cannot afford the full cost of care. The Clinic trains and educates mental health professionals and provides leadership in its community for effective mental health care. The Clinic staff is currently comprised of thirteen health care professionals and a team of ten managers and office staff. In addition, the Clinic is contributing to the training of psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers.

The Clinic’s goals for the short term are to:

  • Refine its financial model to better align with its three revenue streams – fee for service, insurance reimbursement; and philanthropy
  • Build a robust referral network with primary care clinics, large care systems, and health plans
  • Maintain its reputation as a training center and thought leader for mental health practitioners.

Internal team leadership goals include:

  • Ensure that the Clinic has the talent required to meet current and future business needs
  • Create a climate of trust where people are motivated to do their best to help the organization achieve its objectives
  • Build partnerships that best meet shared objectives
  • Anticipate and balance the needs of multiple, diverse stakeholders.

The Executive Director position reports to the Board of Directors and has comprehensive oversight of the Clinic’s organizational strategies, financial management, operational effectiveness, team culture, and community relations. The position prefers a person with a record of successful agency management and a deep understanding of mental health services within a dynamic, cross- cultural health care environment. Achievement of Master’s or Doctoral level training in a mental health related field is desirable. The key competency demanded by the position is the ability to drive clinical and financial results in the complex environment of the mental health world. To do so, it is expected that the Clinic’s Executive Director would maintain a collaborative culture on the staff level in the spirit of trust and shared learning. Competencies should also include a balance of financial acumen, community perspective, and client focus, all under a comprehensive strategic mindset and vision.
